Joint Communication and Sensing at mm-Waves: Hardware Architectures, Prototyping and Fundamental Limits
As communication moves to new frontiers such as massive MIMO and mm-waves, there is increasing interest in leveraging existing communication infrastructure for sensing. Traditional radar and sensing applications have leveraged hardware, waveforms and signal processing architectures that have been distinct from those used in communications. This talk explores how a common hardware and signal processing platform can be used to achieve radar and imaging “for free” from an existing communication platform. Prototyping efforts will be discussed, and future directions that exploit distributed communication systems will also be contemplated.
