The Role of Power Amplifiers in Satellite Transmitters: Efficiency, Linearity, Load Variation Tolerance
Power Amplifiers (PAs) are critical components in satellite transmitters, directly impacting overall system performance in terms of power efficiency, signal quality, and adaptability to varying load conditions. This talk explores the evolving role of PAs in modern satellite communication systems, with a focus on the inherent trade-offs between efficiency and linearity. Particular attention is given to the challenges posed by load impedance variations common in spaceborne environments, and to design strategies that enhance PA robustness under such conditions. The talk offers a general overview along with practical insights into PA design, highlighting recent advances in wideband, multi-stage GaN-based architectures.
