KEYNOTE: Orthogonal LMBA: A Flexible PA Architecture for Broadband Tunable Operation

The Load Modulated Balanced Amplifier (LMBA) has found its space as a valid alternative to Doherty PAs. However, the flexibility of the LMBA action allows other modes of operation than efficiency enhancement at back-off. This presentation will explore how the Orthogonal LMBA can be used as an electronically configurable device to improve its performance over frequency, under mismatch, or in the presence of modulated signals with high dynamics. The background theory of operation and practical examples with experimental results will be discussed.
