Design of a Compact Scalable Gysel Power Combiner in Rectangular Coaxial Guide for High Power Applications
This article presents a 6-way Gysel power combiner (PC) for high-power applications in rectangular coaxial guide (rectax). Compared to corporate and radial power combiners, the proposed Gysel PC achieves compactness while ensuring reliable high-power operation, and is scalable to realize higher-order power combiners. For the validation of the concept, a Gysel PC is designed, fabricated, and measured at 1.87 GHz with a fractional bandwidth of 42%. The combiner exhibits a measured return loss better than 15 dB and isolation exceeding 23 dB over the entire bandwidth. The peak insertion loss is around 0.1 dB, and average combining efficiency is better than 90% over the band of operation. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is one of the first implementations of the Gysel PC in rectax guide.
