A Flexible, Tileable Phased Array Enabled by CMOS Beamformers
This work presents a flexible phased array tile designed and fabricated for wireless power transfer at 10 GHz. The system is driven by custom CMOS RFICs fabricated in a 22 nm CMOS FDSOI process. The chip achieves an overall DC-RF efficiency of 42% and includes a VCDL-based phase shifter with DLL self-calibration that compensates for PVT, enabling rapid and accurate refocusing of the array to different targets. The fabricated 8×8 array radiates 850 mW of power, 385 mW of which is rectified to DC by a 56.25 cm² rectenna at a distance of 20 cm. The array is evaluated under flat, convex, and concave bending conditions to verify its flexibility.
