Efficient Generation of Exact Filter Models for High Power Analysis
To design waveguide or combline filters with moderate power requirements we can use port tuning and equal ripple optimization to achieve designs that are “close enough.” For corona and multipaction analysis, we need to capture the fields inside the filter without external tuning. The Mode Matching and BI-RME methods are efficient for waveguide, allowing direct optimization of dimensions. For complex cases needing FEM simulation, an iterative port tuning approach, with only two FEM simulations per iteration, achieves convergence in four to six iterations. This method scales well with filter order and complexity without extensive FEM solution searches.
