Design, Modeling and Operation of Antennas, Arrays and Metasurfaces in mmWave and THz Communications
In this tutorial, we explain the basic design principles and working operation of the fundamental radiating element of wireless systems - the antenna. After discussing concepts such as polarization, impedance, and waveguide matching, we expand into array theory which is critical for higher frequencies. We explain emerging array technologies such as reflecting intelligent surfaces (RIS) and metasurface design. We provide examples of how to set up simulations in commercial solvers, and how to utilize theoretical and numerical analyses to improve and validate communication designs.
