Terahertz semiconductor electronics
There is an urgent need to develop efficient frequency converters and signal sources that can operate up to frequencies close to 5 THz without cryogenic cooling - beyond the limit of transistor technology. For this purpose, III-V-based semiconductor diodes, such as Schottky, heterostructure, and resonant tunnelling diodes, are used. In this presentation, I will discuss the current status, challenges and prospects for semiconductor electronics and circuits operating in the terahertz frequency range, including high-frequency characterisation techniques.
