6G Optical Wireless Networks

The 6G requirements for high capacity, low latency, high quality of service, and massive connectivity can be well accommodated by OWC technology. Several research groups across the globe are working on OWC-based solutions for future communication networks. Different solutions are based on the four main OWC technologies mentioned above (i.e. VLC, LiFi, OCC and FSO). Lasers and LEDs are used as transmitters. Photodetectors and camera image sensors are proposed as receivers. However, any of these solutions face challenges. The main challenges that will be addressed in this talk are inter-cell interference, atmospheric loss, and compatibility and co-existence with RF-based wireless networks.
