KEYNOTE: LNA and Power Amplifiers for Operation up to 100GHz
This presentation provides an overview of the different applications for amplifiers for use between 1GHz and 100GHz and will highlight the market needs for both satellite and land-based communications and radar transmit/receive modules.
We will map appropriate design technologies to the application requirements in terms of frequency and power which leads to the semiconductor solution. At the circuit level, we will highlight trends in the design of high efficiency amplifiers and the requirement for backed-off linearity performance, while minimizing the impact on amplifier efficiency. Ultimately, the solution provided can be discrete devices, MMICs, integrated modules using discrete devices and MMICs (either as packaged components or as chips), or higher-level pallets and sub-assemblies. The resulting packaging level challenges and associated solutions to deliver the performance will be presented. Specifically, key performance needs, design topologies, associated performance, and relative trade-offs of commercially available GaN-SiC and GaN-Si technologies for these application spaces will be presented.
