Dielectric Filled Waveguide Antenna for Air-Borne Application
A dielectric filled waveguide antenna is designed and developed for generating a surface grazing squint beam mounted on an airframe surface. The radiation performance of the antenna integrated on a metallic airframe is discussed. The performance is optimized using fused-silica dielectric which can withstand high temperature generated on the airframe surface during flight. The antenna is inclined with respect to air-frame axis to obtain required radiation coverage. The simulation and measured results prove that this design provides an effective solution especially for surface grazing increased azimuth coverage with high gain for an on-board target detection system
