Scaling Considerations for Superconducting Quantum-Limited Amplifiers

The ability to perform rapid quantum state assessment in quantum circuits is critical for many required tasks in quantum computing, including quantum feedback and error correction. Although there are several demonstrations of fast high fidelity qubit state measurement, the preamplifier apparatus (parametric amplifiers) used to achieve these results still has much room for improvement, especially in the context of scaling measurements to large (1000+) numbers of qubits. We will need to reduce volume and dissipated power, while increasing bandwidth and power handling capability. In this talk I will review how some of these challenges might be met in practice.
