True Time Delay Array Beamforming for Initial Access, Multi-User Communications and Spectrum Sharing
In this talk we will present novel beamforming designs using True Time Delay (TTD) arrays based on dispersive frequency-to-angle mapping referred to as rainbow beamforming. We will introduce three representative beamforming designs for enabling the following applications: (1) single-shot beam training for fast link establishment, (2) sub-band multiplexing for multi-user access, and (3) wideband null-steering for spectrum sharing with incumbents. We will discuss both analog and hybrid TTD array architectures, and analyze their performance in terms of latency, spectral efficiency, and wideband nulling capabilities along with circuits and systems design requirements.
