Next-Generation All-Digital Transmitters: Agile, Scalable, and Multi-Element

All-digital transmitters (ADTs) offer a digital replacement for conventional RF architectures, simplifying analog circuitry while enabling frequency agility, parallelism, and close integration with programmable platforms. These features make ADTs particularly relevant for future wireless systems, especially those requiring scalable antenna arrays. This workshop reviews advances improving ADT feasibility and performance, including FPGA-based implementations and methods for wideband or multi-band operation. The use of single-bit ADTs to directly drive antenna arrays will be discussed, with a focus on trade-offs in scalability and flexibility. Participants will gain a focused overview of agile, scalable, multi-element ADT architectures and identify their limitations in comparison to traditional designs.
