GaN-Based All-Digital RF Transmitters: State-of-the-Art Results, Potential and Future Trends

The transition to fully digital mobile communications is increasingly complex with 5G and even more with 6G. Since transmitters largely determine system efficiency, they face the toughest challenges. This presentation examines digital transmitter approaches, including digital modulators and GaN-based power amplifiers operating up to 6GHz, highlighting their potential for modern infrastructure. It examines how digital transmitter components can enhance performance in advanced architectures, such as full-duplex radios, and in applications like handsets. Finally, it discusses prospects for extending digital concepts to frequencies above 100GHz, paving the way for 6G systems with higher efficiency, improved performance, and broader application potential.
