Coherent THz Sources and Detectors for Communication Systems

mm-Wave and sub-mm-wave applications have been increasing steadily over the last decade. These applications include both space-based remote sensing as well as ground-based industrial applications such as non-destructive testing, metrology and communications. For communication systems, the THz frequency range is attractive as it provides bandwidth and smaller apertures. There are also scenarios where due to natural absorption of THz signals at certain frequencies, covert local-area-only networks can be operated. This talk will focus on the recent advances in the development of room-temperature based wideband, compact sources and detectors in the THz range.
