There are so many opportunities available to make the most of IMS as a Student!

Student Ambassadors:

Experience IMS as an insider and get complimentary registration when you help out as a student ambassador! The International MTT Symposia (IMS) is the most prestigious conference in the field of RF and microwave engineering. Each year, this event attracts thousands of people from all over the world. Although the prestige of IMS is based on a consistently excellent technical program and many networking opportunities, the overall success of each conference is due to the combined effort of many volunteers.

Student Design Competitions:

All eligible students or student teams are invited to participate in the International MTT Symposia (IMS) 2026 Student Design Competitions (SDCs). The competition encourages students to employ creative problem solving and gain practical design experience by developing a circuit, or system to address a problem stated in the competition rules while following specified constraints. The students will bring their designs to the competition where they perform measurements and compete against other student teams. We have different competitions spanning a wide range of topics from power amplifier design to electromagnetic tumor detection. Links to descriptions and rules for each competition are below. Winning teams are awarded cash prizes, recognized at the IMS student luncheon awards, and a chance to publish their designs in the IEEE Microwave Magazine.

PhD Student Sponsorship Initiative:

This initiative, established and sponsored by the IEEE MTT-S Administrative Committee, is available for all 1st/2nd year PhD students worldwide who have not attended the IEEE International MTT Symposia. The initiative provides sponsorship to attend IMS2026 (which includes IEEE MTT-S RF Integrated Circuits (RFIC) Symposium, IEEE MTT-S RF Technology & Techniques (RFTT) Symposium and the IEEE MTT-S RF Systems & Applications (RFSA) Symposium) in Boston, MA, USA.

Project Connect:

Project Connect will bring an exceptional group of undergraduate and first-year graduate students to the IEEE conference on a travel grant provided by sponsors. Students from underserved groups will be selected based on their academic credentials and career goals, through a competitive application process. The goal of Project Connect is to be a workforce development platform to encourage students in a complex field of applied electromagnetics.
